WHEN AND HOW OFTEN TO EXPRESS

It is possible to start hand expressing as soon as your baby is born

If baby is taking some feeds from the breast

• Express about 30-45 minutes after a feed

 

To build a supply of milk if baby is not taking milk from the breast

• Express at least 8 times in 24 hours, including at night
• No gaps longer than 4 hours in day time and 6 hours at night
